Situated where the Coosa and Tallapoosa Rivers meet to form the Alabama River, this area offers a diverse habitat which attracts a variety of birds and wildlife. We’ll follow a dirt loop trail which meanders past an open field, along the river and through a wooded section. The trail is approximately 1.5 miles. We’ll be traveling at a leisurely pace and expect to spend about 2-2 ½ hours at this location.

Field Trip to Trussville Cahaba River Greenway (Free!)

Join us to look for fall migrants along the greenway beside the Cahaba River in Trussville. We can expect to see species such as wrens, kinglets, woodpeckers, and chickadees. We will be watching along the water for Great Blue and Green herons and possible kingfishers. Scanning the skies we’ll look for hawks, vultures, and maybe even a passing Bald Eagle.

As autumn straddles winter in mid-November, we’ll head to a pair of fruitful birding sights in northern Alabama. Beginning at the riparian habitats of the Hays Nature Preserve along the Flint River, we’ll then travel to the field ecosystems of the Alabama A&M Research Station. Past November trips to these two locations have netted over 50 species.
