Join Alabama Audubon in celebrating Birdability Week this year from October 20 - 26, 2025! This week-long event is dedicated to making birding accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of ability. Alabama Audubon Ambassador Joe Watts will lead a short Out-and-Back from the parking area and down the greenway in search of late migratory birds and arriving winter birds.
The Shades Creek Greenway is one a reliable place in suburbia for woodland birds as it offers water, food, and plenty of woodland space for both people and birds alike. We will travel less than half a mile total as a group along the path in search of exciting birds!

Tennessee, Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, and Yellow-rumped Warblers
Red-bellied and Pileated Woodpeckers
Ruby and Golden-crowned Kinglets
Hermit Thrushes
Cedar Waxwings
Blue-headed Vireos
Meeting Time and Place: We will meet promptly in the parking lot of Shades Creek Greenway at 8:00 am before completing an Out-and-Back on the greenway trail.

This event is free, but registration is required.
Accessibility: We will travel up to .3 miles on concrete walking paths that travel along the stream. While the paths are mostly flat, debris like rocks, sticks, or other obstacles may be present that may be unsuitable for all people. The are occasional benches scattered throughout the park if you need to rest, and restrooms near the parking area. Please reach out if you need any accommodations for this program.
