[Coastal] Hummingbirds (& more!) at Perdido River Preserve (Private Residence) ($)

  • Location will be sent via email. (map)

Join us for an exclusive birdwatching adventure at the Perdido River Preserve in Bay Minette, Alabama. This property is an amazing opportunity to explore diverse habitats along the Florida-Alabama line and in the fall is perhaps most well-known for its density of visiting hummingbirds! Participants on this trip will have the option to sit on the front porch and enjoy observing the entertaining comings and goings of the hummingbirds or join one of our guides to explore further into the fields, pines, and wetland bottoms throughout the property.

This time of year in lower Alabama presents the opportunity to see end of season breeding birds mixed in with early migrants. Birds that include crowd-favorites like the Indigo Bunting, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, and Summer Tanager all breed in this area and could be present. Warbler enthusiasts will have the chance to spot species such as the Black-and-white Warbler, Prairie Warbler, and Hooded Warbler among the lush foliage, and other migrants like American Redstarts and Philadelphia Vireos will also be on the move.

Trip Leader: Your trip leader will be Coastal Outreach Manager Cortney Weatherby (cortney@alaudubon.org / 402-297-1775). Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or require special accessibility accommodations, so that we assist you.

LOCATION DETAILS: There are restrooms available at the main house. Please remember to wear seasonally appropriate attire and bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray. Sturdy shoes for hiking are recommended if you plan on exploring the property. Cell phone service may be limited in the area.

TRAVEL INFORMATION : Bay Minette, AL 36507
**Exact meeting location address will be emailed to registered participants.**

We will meet at the gated entrance to the property promptly at 7:30am. The roads into the property are uneven with some ruts and bumps. It is recommended that participants travel in a vehicle with high clearance if possible. Depending on recent weather conditions, vehicles with low clearance can still access the property but should travel slowly on the road to navigate the terrain. Anyone who may not feel comfortable driving their car over the rough terrain can park at the gate and carpool in.

Accessibility : We will walk up to three miles on uneven terrain with some slight to moderate slopes that may not be suitable for all people. Those who would prefer to enjoy the property from the comfort of the front porch will delight in the "hummingbird party" and are welcome to take a stroll throughout the surrounding yard which has potential for great birds as well!
