Celebrating Birdability Week / Big Sit at Wheeler Dam (Rogersville, AL) (Free!)

Join Alabama Audubon in celebrating Birdability Week this year from October 20-26, 2025! This week-long event is dedicated to making birding accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of ability. Alabama Audubon Program Coordinator will lead participants in this program for a Big Sit at Wheeler Dam, which has some of the highest densities of birds in the state! Andrew will help count and ID the many birds that flyby to go roost on the islands below the dam. Bring your own chair, snacks, and get comfortable as the birds at this location come to you!

Target Species:
Tennessee, Magnolia, Chestnut-sided Warblers
Turkey and Black Vultures
Double-crested and possible Neotropic Cormorants
Ring-billed, Herring, and Lesser Black-backed Gulls
Bald Eagles
Diving ducks like Lesser Scaup, Redheads, and maybe even an early-arrival Surf or Black Scoter!

This event is free but, registration is required.

Meeting Time and Place: We will meet promptly at 4:30PM below the dam near the fishing area. Please use the exact coordinates below to find the group.

Accessibility : We will be stationary for this program and will not move more than a few feet from the parking area to the water's edge. Please bring a chair if you would like to sit as there is limited seating in the area. There are restrooms available, and parking is free at this location.
