SPEAKER SERIES / THE CREATOR OF WINGSPAN

SPEAKER SERIES / ELIZABETH HARGRAVE

A CONVERSATION WITH THE CREATOR OF WINGSPAN

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

ALABAMA AUDUBON is thrilled to welcome the brilliant Elizabeth Hargrave as our fall guest speaker. Hargrave is a prolific game-builder with an extensive resume of highly-rated games that includes the award-winning board game, WINGSPAN.

We hope you will join us for a conversation wherein Hargrave will discuss her motivations and process for creating a game of this scale. A major component of her work is to represent diverse voices through the creative process and to produce games that are inclusive and accessible for individuals with all sorts of different backgrounds and levels of experience—building environments where we can play while we learn together.

There will be Q&A opportunity following the talk.

ABOUT WINGSPAN

WINGSPAN is a competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game from Stonemaier Games. It is the highly-acclaimed winner of the 2019 Kennerspiel des Jahres.

Within the game, “You are birders seeking to attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each habitat in the game is associated with an action (gaining food, laying eggs, drawing cards). Each bird that you play makes you better at those actions, and triggers its own power each time you use its habitat.” FIND OUT MORE

ABOUT ELIZABETH HARGRAVE

ELIZABETH HARGRAVE is a board game designer who is inspired by a love of nature and a desire to play games that break away from tried-and-true themes. “When I'm not gaming,” she says, “you'll often find me hiking, birding, or collecting mushrooms in and around Washington, DC.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION

Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
