eBIRD / OCTOBER BIG DAY

EBIRD OCTOBER BIG DAY 2023

THE WORLD’S LARGEST FALL MIGRATION BIRD COUNT

OPEN TO EVERYONE

Join ALABAMA AUDUBON and thousands of other birdwatchers, during eBird's Annual October Big Day this year! You can be part of the world's largest Fall migration bird counting effort and contribute to the science and conservation of the birds near you and across the globe.

This event is for everybody. You don't need to be an expert to participate. You can even complete your lists at home—all you need is a free eBird account. Observations can then be entered on ebird.org/submit/ or by using the free eBird Mobile app for Android and iPhone.

Every list you submit will automatically be added to the October Big Day totals, helping scientists to better understand global bird populations and inform responsible conservation decisions about the birds you love.

Last year, eBird users on October Big Day helped tally 7,453 different species of birds from 185 different countries—192 species were observed in Alabama alone. Our hope is to count 200 species this year and we can’t do it without you!

eBird Submissions due by October 17, 2023

HENSLOW’S SPARROW Andrew Lydeard / Alabama Audubon

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION

Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
