Ruddy Turnstone by Andrew Lydeard
Join Program Coordinator Andrew Lydeard for an online course that covers the expected sandpipers and plovers found throughout Alabama and how to identify them, just in time for peak shorebird migration!
Although many birders think of September or October as fall migration months, it is actually in July when some of the first shorebirds begin migrating south from their northern breeding grounds. By October, many of the shorebird species will have passed through Alabama or started their wintering stays at some of our beaches and wetlands throughout the state.
Andrew will discuss where and when to search for these birds throughout the state and region, and the course will include information about shorebird life histories, important field marks, and other valuable tips to improve your field skills on this challenging group of birds. The course will last for about an hour with some time at the end for questions.
This event will be online only: Participants will receive a Zoom link prior to the course to the email used for registration. Please be sure to check your spam/junk folders for the link.
Registration Fee: $20.00
TRAVEL INFORMATION : This event will only be canceled by Alabama Audubon in the event of unforeseen circumstances. If you have questions about the program, please contact Andrew Lydeard (andrew@alaudubon.org) for more information.
