Red-eyed Vireo

The birdwatching at Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve is mythical. This Alabama Birding Trail 740-acre preserve offers a bird blind and habitat, and a 10x10 elevated birding platform along the Moonshine Trail that overlooks a spring-fed water feature and diverse forest, attracting numerous species. We hope to see some late migrants as well as some of our winter species.

This is an all-day event; please be sure to bring water, snacks, and wear appropriate attire.

MEETING PLACE & LOCATION: We will be meeting in the parking lot of Chapman Mountain at 8:30AM. ‍The preserve is located just east of downtown Huntsville on Highway 72, featuring over 4.5 miles of trails, and is open daily from dawn to dusk. Access is completely free, making it highly accessible for both casual observers and seasoned birders.

Target Birds: We will look for winter migrants including thrushes, warblers, kinglets, vireos, and flycatchers.

Accessibility: This event is not suitable for those with mobility requirements. This event will cover up to 2 miles on pavement, gravel, and muddy surfaces with moderate uphill and downhill elevations.

Registration is free but required.
