Coastal Field Trip: Dauphin Island Shell Mounds [FREE]

  • Dauphin Island Shell Mounds 830 Iberville Drive Dauphin Island, AL, 36528 United States (map)

Description: Join Coastal Outreach Manager Cortney Weatherby at one of the most cherished springtime birding sites on Dauphin Island, Shell Mound Park. Dubbed "America's Birdiest Small Town" for a reason, the island is a critical migration stopover for a stunning variety of bird species. The dense tree cover found at Shell Mound Park provides ample foraging cover for warblers, tanagers, buntings, vireos, and more! We will slowly work our way through the trails at the site and end on the back side of the property near the bay waters and small pond to pick up any lingering waterbirds.

We welcome all birding interests and levels to this walk! Binoculars will be available to borrow. Peak spring migration is fast approaching and there's no better time to get out and explore our local bird life.
