SHOREBIRD NESTING
BIRDWALK & SEASONAL VOLUNTEER EVENT
FREE WITH REGISTRATION / SPACE IS LIMITED
REGISTRATION CLOSES THURSDAY, MAY 14 AT 12AM
Volunteer with Alabama Audubon as we prepare for the upcoming shorebird nesting season. It's hard to believe that baby birds will be on our beaches in the next few months. As we ready ourselves for the fun to begin, we need some helping hands to get our supplies ready!
We will provide the supplies (and snacks!). This will be a great opportunity to learn more about our coastal work get connected with our awesome volunteer community.
Prior to volunteer activities, we will lead a short bird walk starting at 9AM. We will meet in the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center parking lot. Come for one or both- we hope to see you there!
WHAT WE WILL BE DOING
PAINTING / We have close to 200 chick shelters that need a coat of paint to help seal them from the elements. These structures are placed at nesting sites to provide shelter for chicks from the harsh summer sun and predators. It takes almost 4 weeks for these baby birds to be capable of flight once they hatch and they need a little extra help getting by during that time!
Wear clothing that you don’t mind getting paint on.
UPDATING SIGNS / We also have 175 signs that need new decals placed on them to help ensure that people stay out of active nesting sites.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION
Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
