FEATHER FEST 2024
PRESENTED BY OAKVILLE MOUNDS EDUCATION CENTER
BIRD WALK BY ALABAMA AUDUBON
FREE EVENT / LIMITED SPACE
This March, join educators, bird rehabilitators, and conservationists from around Alabama to gather at the Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center for the first ever Oakville Mounds Feather Fest! This event runs from 10AM to 2PM and will be the perfect blend of leisure and learning, set against the backdrop of the Oakville Mounds' rich cultural landscape.
During the festival, tag along on a special guided afternoon walk led by Alabama Audubon's Program Coordinator, Andrew Lydeard, to explore the trails of the park. We will walk through a variety of habitats, stopping to view birds we encounter along the way.
The afternoon walk begins at 1PM and promises to be a grand finale to Feather Fest as we explore the trails of this magnificent property and take the opportunity to observe a variety of avian species in their natural habitat, including the melodious Hermit Thrushes, vibrant Pine Warblers, Blue-headed Vireos, and an array of woodpeckers. With a bit of luck, participants may even spot early migratory birds such as the White-eyed Vireos or the striking Black-and-White Warblers! As we traverse the trails, Andrew will share insights into the birds' behaviors, habitats, and the importance of conservation. Whether you're a seasoned birder or new to the world of birdwatching, this walk is an ideal way to connect with gain a deeper appreciation for Alabama's diverse birdlife and support local organizations striving to protect birds in Alabama!

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION
Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
