Wood Duck by Murray Head

Join Alabama Audubon as we explore Wood Duck Nature Preserve of Opelika. An easy one mile hike around the lagoon on flat trails leads to two blinds allowing close-up views and photographic opportunities of wintering waterfowl. Twenty species of duck have been observed here, with past rarities including white-winged scoter, greater scaup, red-necked phalarope, and American bittern. We should see hundreds of ducks. Woodland birds include hermit thrush, hairy woodpecker, brown creeper, common yellowthroat, and goldfinch.

Birders of all skill sets are welcome. Trip leaders will have birding scopes for up-close viewing and loaner binoculars. They will help identify all birds and discuss the species present.

This event is free, but registration is required.
