NATURE@NOON

A BIRDWALK IN BIRMINGHAM’S RAILROAD PARK

FREE WITH REGISTRATION / SPACE IS LIMITED
REGISTRATION CLOSES WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15 AT 11PM

Join us for our third Nature@Noon walk for the 2023 fall season. Every month, we offer an opportunity to participate in an hour-long, Friday lunchtime walk that explores different locations of the state and their birds each month.

The November walk will be led by our Executive Director, Dr. Scot Duncan, and our Program Coordinator, Andrew Lydeard as we visit Birmingham’s own Railroad Park. This park is one of downtown Birmingham's best urban birding locations and offers a leisurely walk among native tree plantings, a small wetland and creek, and shrubby and open grassy areas. Take a break from the work day as we look for our favorite cool season birds like Song and White-throated Sparrows.

We will start by working our way to the wetland area, keeping an eye for birds such as Eastern Phoebes and Yellow-rumped Warblers that often enjoy the crepe myrtles and shrubs nearby. In the wetland area, there's a good chance we'll see Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles, and American Robins should be hopping on areas of open grass nearby. After the wetland, we will scan Railroad Park Lake, which can be a good place for waterbirds like Pied-billed Grebes or American Coots.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION

Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
