Throughout his esteemed career that spans nearly half a century, Dr. Gibbons has focused on the rich biodiversity of the southeastern United States, particularly in the realm of reptiles and amphibians, and will delve into the historical biodiversity of the region, exploring what it was like in Alabama "before your grandparents were born." Dr. Gibbons will also introduce his new book, "Salleyland," which invites readers to embark on wildlife adventures through swamps, sandhills, and forests of his property in west-central South Carolina and emphasizes the importance of learning about and engaging with the natural world around us. Participants are encouraged to bring along their favorite book by Dr. Gibbons for a book signing session before the talk, making this an exceptional opportunity for fans and nature enthusiasts alike to connect with one of the leading voices in conservation and ecological education.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION

Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
