NATURE@NOON
black Birders’ week - Avondale park
*THIS EVENT IS FULL / REGISTRATION IS CLOSED
Join Executive Director Dr. Scot Duncan for this month’s Nature at Noon in Avondale Park, where we'll celebrate Black Birders' Week with a special guest, Damion Bankhead. Damion is a local Birmingham birder and heralded photographer, and this opportunity is a great way to explore the park's diverse avian life while learning from Damion's expertise and passion for birding and photography. During our outing, we'll focus on observing breeding birds in the woodland edges and around the lake area while spending a leisurely lunch hour with Damion and Scot.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for White-eyed Vireos, Summer Tanagers, and Orchard Orioles that are known to nest nearby. Additionally, we'll scan the park's pond for the Green Heron and Yellow-crowned Night-Heron pairs here, both of which breed in the vicinity of the park and hunt the water’s edge. Swallows such as Barn Swallows and Northern Rough-winged Swallows can be prevalent as they hunt for insects over the water, and we expect to see Chimney Swifts high above as they circle Birmingham’s skyline. We hope you help Alabama Audubon celebrate Black Birders in Alabama and throughout the world this May for Nature @ Noon at Avondale Park!

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION
Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
