Guided Spring Bird Hike at Monte Sano State Park

FREE WITH REGISTRATION / SPACE IS LIMITED
REGISTRATION CLOSES MAY 5 AT 12AM

Join us for a Guided Spring Bird Hike at Monte Sano State Park, led by Program Coordinator Andrew Lydeard! We will explore the park's diverse avian population while enjoying the picturesque landscapes and tranquil ambiance of Monte Sano as we seek some of the last transient migrants passing through the region. Participants will take a leisurely hike through the park's scenic trails, starting at the picnic area and completing the North Plateau Loop Trail.

Monte Sano is one of the first stopping places for migratory birds to begin their journeys along the Appalachian Mountains. As we will be reaching the end of peak songbird migration, late migrants are a great possibility as they make their treks to northern latitudes. During the hike, you will have the chance to witness a plethora of bird species in their natural habitat, from colorful songbirds to majestic raptors soaring overhead. Some species include Chestnut-sided and Blackpoll Warblers, Gray-cheeked Thrush, and maybe even a Mourning Warbler while other migratory birds like Wood Thrush and Red-eyed Vireos will have already begun setting up their breeding territories in the park. The park’s overlooks also provide a great place to watch migratory Broad-winged Hawks kettling in the sky! Join us for an unforgettable journey through the sights and sounds of springtime at Monte Sano State Park.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION

Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
