Field Trip: Little River Canyon / Ft. Payne AL (Free!)

  • 322 Little Canyon Rim Parkway, Ft. Payne AL 35967 (map)

Cedar Waxwing by Tammy Kokjohn

We'll assemble at 8:30AM in the parking area at the Little River Canyon Center, 4322 Little Canyon Rim Parkway, Ft. Payne, AL 35967, and after a short time birding the woods surrounding the Center, we'll caravan from there to stops along Little River Rim Parkway, in search of both permanent resident birds and early winter visitant arrivals.

We should also spot some raptors in their fall migration, and we should be in for some nice fall foliage, as well. The chance exists for views of some of the area's megafauna, too - deer are abundant here, and DeKalb County hosts a significant and growing population of black bear.

We will also carpool from Birmingham. For those who wish to share rides from the Birmingham area, meet at 6:30AM in the parking lot behind McDonald’s on US 31 across from the Hoover Galleria.

McDonald’s Address: 1731 Montgomery Hwy, Hoover, AL 35244

PLEASE NOTE: This is an all-day event. Please bring plenty of water, lunch, and snacks. We recommend bring weather appropriate attire, and the trails may be muddy.
