Audubon Outing: Spring Migration at Fort Morgan

Alabama Audubon is thrilled to announce two guided bird walks during Coastal Bird Banding in the third week of April. These walks, led by our esteemed team—Executive Director Dr. Scot Duncan, Coastal Programs Manager Cortney Weatherby, and Program Coordinator Andrew Lydeard—offer a unique opportunity to explore the rich avian diversity of Alabama's Gulf Coast during the peak of spring migration. Participants can sign up for one or both walks for a special guided bird walk at one of the best locations for spring migration in the state!
We’ll start at the Stables and walk around the area, searching for songbirds before heading to explore the fort grounds. Both days promise to be exciting and educational, with knowledgeable guides sharing insights into the birds' behaviors, migration patterns, and conservation efforts. Participants can expect to see migrants such as the Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Swainson’s Thrush, Magnolia Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Blue-winged Warblers, Indigo and Painted Buntings, and many more! Be sure to sign up today as spaces are limited and are expected to fill up quickly. All proceeds from these walks will contribute to the coastal conservation efforts and missions of Alabama Audubon.

NEED-TO-KNOW
REMEMBER As always, remember to bring plenty of water, snacks, insect repellent, sun screen, and wear seasonally appropriate attire. If you wish to eat in the park following the walk, be sure to bring a sack lunch.
REQUIRED Participants must complete the mandatory online waiver when registering. Please do not request registration for others when submitting your request.
ACCESSIBILITY Please note there is an $8 fee for entering Fort Morgan’s grounds. We will walk about 3 miles on mostly sand, gravel, and asphalt. There may be slight changes in elevation and terrain that may not be suitable for all people. There are restrooms at the Fort and boat ramp next to the Fort as well as ample parking on Burgoyne Rd. and the boat ramp.
CANCELLATION In the event of inclement weather, or if you need to cancel at the last minute, please text your trip leaders, as the main office will be closed.

We will meet at the entrance of the Stables at Fort Morgan where banding operations occur promptly at 2:00pm.
