NATURE@NOON
A BIRDWALK AT THE BIRMINGHAM BOTANICAL GARDENS
FREE WITH REGISTRATION / SPACE IS LIMITED
REGISTRATION CLOSES THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14 AT 12AM
Join us for our last Nature@Noon walk for the 2023 calendar season. Every month, we offer an opportunity to participate in an hour-long, Friday lunchtime walk that explores different locations of the state and their birds each month.
This December walk will be led by our Executive Director, Dr. Scot Duncan, and our Program Coordinator, Andrew Lydeard at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This heralded space is one of central Alabama's exciting places for bird watching and nature viewing, and it is regarded as one of the best locations in metro Birmingham to enjoy relaxing, winter birding.
We will meet in the main parking area next to Sonat Lake to scan for wading birds and winter waterfowl. This area can also be a great location to see woodpeckers or songbirds foraging in the trees nearby. As we work north toward the Formal Garden/Queen's Gate, we will scan the shrubs and edges for birds like Brown Thrashers and Eastern Towhees that prefer a bit more cover. We will continue through the Hill Garden to look for nuthatches, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and Eastern Bluebirds that are often seen in this part of the park before looping back to the parking lot.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION
Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
