NATURE@NOON
A BIRDWALK IN HOOVER’S ALDRIDGE GARDENS
FREE WITH REGISTRATION / SPACE IS LIMITED
REGISTRATION CLOSES THURSDAY, JANUARY 18 AT 12AM
Join us for our first Nature@Noon walk of 2024! Every month, we offer an opportunity to participate in an hour-long, Friday lunchtime walk that explores different locations of the state and its nature each month.
The January walk will be led by our Executive Director, Dr. Scot Duncan, and our Program Coordinator, Andrew Lydeard as we visit Aldridge Gardens in Hoover. This park is one of suburban Birmingham's most fun winter birding destinations and offers a mix of manicured botanical gardens, brushy edges, and pockets of mixed woodlands. It can be one of the best locations to find overwintering songbirds like Hermit Thrushes, White-throated Sparrows, and Golden-crowned Kinglets in the area.
We will start by scanning the parking lot for Yellow-rumped Warblers and Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers before making our way toward the trails near the pond. We will scan the shrubs and thickets near the pond as well as keeping an occasional eye toward the sky in search of soaring Red-tailed or Red-shouldered Hawks that regularly patrol these areas. After circling the visitor center, we will return to the parking lot where we first met.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION
Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
