LOCATION DESCRIPTION / Online: Join Alabama Audubon and special instructor, Daniel Redwine, for this November’s online course as we take a comprehensive dive into the world of wintering sparrows in the Eastern U.S. Daniel’s approach to finding and identifying sparrows will not only cover field marks and plumage but also focus on the behaviors, habitats, and seasonality that separate each species. This comprehensive course will provide ecological significance of sparrows in their respective niches, how they can be used as habitat indicators, and other unique insights to bolster your ‘Little Brown Bird’ ID. Go beyond conventional knowledge found in your field guide and learn from an expert on when, where, and how to locate a variety of species throughout the southeastern U.S.
Daniel Redwine resides in Nashville, TN and is currently a graduate teaching assistant at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. Daniel is studying the feeding behavior and ecology of wintering White-throated Sparrows (Zonotrichia albicollis) in Tennessee and plans on defending his thesis in 2025. He is rapidly rising to be among the most knowledgeable resources for locating some of the more difficult winter species such as Nelson’s, Leconte’s, Henslow’s, and Grasshopper Sparrows in the southeastern birding community.
