PERRY LAKES PARK
A LONGTIME FAVORITE
FREE WITH REGISTRATION / SPACE IS LIMITED
REGISTRATION CLOSES FRIDAY, APRIL 5 AT 12AM
Many southern breeding warblers and neotropical migrant songbirds tend to be early spring migrants, and for this reason, we are heading south to Perry Lakes Park, a longtime favorite birding site, for this early April field trip.
Flitting among the long drapes of Spanish moss, we can expect to find and hear a good number of Northern Parulas and Yellow-throated Warblers, while the understory will undoubtedly host Hooded and (perhaps) Kentucky Warblers.
Streamside in this bottomland hardwood forest will be our best bet for finding brilliant Prothonotary Warblers and Louisiana Waterthrushes. Vireos we can expect to find and/or hear: Red-eyed, White-eyed and Yellow-throated—and perhaps a lingering Blue-headed Vireo. We might be a bit early for Summer and Scarlet Tanagers, but we'll be looking and listening for them as well.
Surely, woodpeckers will be abundant and we might hoot up a barred owl!

NEED-TO-KNOW
REMEMBER As always, remember to bring plenty of water and wear seasonally appropriate attire. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking/walking shoes, suitable for walking on established trails over sometimes uneven terrain.
DETAILS The park features a 100-foot tall birding canopy tower and the walk to nearby Barton's Beach— a Nature Conservancy of Alabama property —will certainly be in order. Last, but not least, the Marion Fish Hatchery at the entrance to the park will be a sure stop as well.
We will picnic on-site, so bring a lunch, snacks, and plenty to drink.
REQUIRED Participants must complete the mandatory online waiver when registering. Please do not request registration for others when submitting your request.
ACCESSIBILITY Perry Lakes Park hosts multiple trails, none of which are handicapped accessible. There is an accessible restroom on site, however.
CANCELLATION In the event of inclement weather, or if you need to cancel at the last minute, please text your trip leaders, as the main office will be closed.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION
Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
