Cahaba River Park (Free!)

  • 1868 River Road, Helena, AL 35080, United States (map)

Worm-eating Warbler // Todd DeVore

The Cahaba River Park is a very large Shelby County park along the Cahaba River and has many birds to see. There are several different habitat types here, including wide open areas on the road into the main part of the park, and riparian bottomland along the river, and well over 50 bird species can be found here on a Spring day.

We will bird some trails all morning, and people who bring lunch and wish to lunch together may do so around the pavilion. There are plenty of trails around if people wish to extend the birding.

Meeting Location & Time : We will meet at 7:30am at the restroom and picnic pavilion at the end of River Road, which is off of County Road 13 that goes west away from the Helena area. There is a house on River Road where Shelby County law enforcement lives before the pavilion with address 1868 River Road, for an address to put into GPS.

Location Address For Event: Pavilion at end of River Road, past 1868 River Road, Helena, AL 35080, United States

Target Bird Species: Along the river Warblers can include Worm-Eating, Kentucky, and Yellow-Throated. Pileated Woodpeckers are common. In the more open areas, Blue Grosbeak, Prairie Warbler, and Common Yellowthroat are found.
