Great Backyard Bird Count // Birmingham Zoo (Free!)

  • Birmingham Zoo 2630 Cahaba Road, Birmingham, AL 35223 (map)

Limited to 30 spots!

Description: Each February, for four days, the world comes together for the love of birds, spending time in favorite places, watching and counting as many birds as can be found while reporting their observations—citizen science at its best. You can contribute to the science and conservation of the birds near you and across the globe with thousands of other birdwatchers.

Join Alabama as we participate in this year’s Great Backyard Bird Count on February 15th at the Birmingham Zoo—it offers a variety of habitats and no less than 30 species can typically be seen on our walk, including hawks, woodpeckers, winter warblers, wrens, blackbirds, finches, and many other songbirds.

If you are a user of eBird or Merlin, your submissions over the 4-day event will automatically be added to the GBBC totals, helping scientists to better understand global bird populations and inform responsible conservation decisions. Observation reports and trends allow scientists to better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations.
