Guided Spring Bird Hike at Wind Creek State Park

FREE WITH REGISTRATION / SPACE IS LIMITED
REGISTRATION CLOSES MAY 13 AT 12AM

It’s time to explore the beauty of Wind Creek State Park with Alabama Audubon!  Participants will explore a trail that crosses through the southern forests in spring, seeking migrant and breeding bird species that might be found in the park. We will be joined by one of the park’s naturalists, who will also help interpret any interesting plants or wildlife along the way, so that nature enthusiasts and birding aficionados can explore the diverse avian population thriving in the park's scenic landscapes. We will walk on the Alabama Reunion Trail as well as bird near the picnic area to observe as many birds as possible during our walk!

The park's mix of woodlands, meadows, and water bodies attracts a rich assortment of avian life, offering glimpses of both resident and migratory birds found in Alabama. Although songbird migration is winding down, you never know what may show up in Alabama in May! Cape May and Magnolia Warblers may still be lingering as they pass through to northern latitudes, and many of the breeding birds of the area will have begun nesting, including Red-eyed Vireos, Summer Tanagers, and Great Crested Flycatchers. Additionally, we will scan part of the lake for waterfowl like Pied-billed Grebes or waders like Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets. Sign up today for another great spring bird hike with Alabama Audubon and Alabama State Parks!

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION

Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
