Bird Banding Demonstration & Bird Walk

  • Ruffner Mountain 1942 Ruffner Road Birmingham, AL, 35210 United States (map)

Cost: $50

Capacity: Limited, registration required.

You're invited to join Ruffner Mountain and Alabama Audubon on Tuesday, August 6th, to see birds up close as scientists document Ruffner Mountain’s summer bird community through bird banding—the capture, measurement, and release of wild birds.

Our organizations have partnered to participate in the Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS) program, a continent-wide conservation effort to monitor bird survival and reproductive success.

During this outing, you will enjoy a guided bird walk led by Andrew Lydeard of Alabama Audubon and get an up close and personal viewing of the bird banding process.

MEETING TIME AND PLACE Meet at the Ruffner Eastern Trailhead, 1942 Ruffner Rd, Birmingham, AL 35210 at 7:00 am.

TRIP LEADER Your trip leader for this event will be Andrew Lydeard / andrew@alaudubon.org

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION

Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
