Audubon Outing: Perdido River Preserve

  • Private Residence Bay Minette United States (map)

Cost: $35

Capacity: 15

LOCATION DESCRIPTION / In-person: Join us for an exclusive birdwatching adventure at the Perdido River Preserve in Bay Minette, Alabama, with Coastal Program Manager Cortney Weatherby and Program Coordinator Andrew Lydeard in beautiful southern Alabama. This property is an amazing opportunity to explore diverse habitats along the Florida-Alabama line and in the fall is perhaps most well-known for its hummingbird population! Participants on this trip will have the option to sit on the front porch and enjoy observing the entertaining comings and goings of the visiting hummingbirds or join one of our guides to explore further into the fields, pines, and wetland bottoms throughout the property.

This time of year in lower Alabama presents the opportunity to see end of season breeding birds mixed in with early migrants. Birds that include crowd-favorites like the Indigo Bunting, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, and Summer Tanager all breed in this area and could be present. Warbler enthusiasts will have the chance to spot species such as the Black-and-white Warbler, Prairie Warbler, and Hooded Warbler among the lush foliage, and other migrants like American Redstarts and Philadelphia Vireos will also be on the move. As always, proceeds from all events directly contribute to our conservation and educational goals through the state as well as contribute to partnering landowners.

LOCATION DETAILS / In-person: We will meet at the gated entrance to the property promptly at 8am. There are restrooms available at the main house. Please remember to wear seasonally appropriate attire and bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray. Sturdy shoes for hiking are recommended if you plan on walking.
