$35 TO ATTEND / SPACE IS LIMITED
REGISTRATION CLOSES MAY 7 AT 12AM

Join us for an exclusive birdwatching adventure at the Perdido River Preserve in Bay Minette, Alabama, with Coastal Program Manager Cortney Weatherby and Program Coordinator Andrew Lydeard in beautiful southern Alabama. This is our first-ever Coastal Outing and offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich birdlife of the region during spring migration and peak breeding season while on private, managed land that straddles the Florida state line. The Perdido River Preserve provides a scenic backdrop for our birding excursion with a mix of habitats attracting a wide range of species that breed in this region of the state. We will walk around managed trails on the property that traverse bottomlands, grassland, and coastal plains forest in search of a wild variety of birds that could be found here.

Mid-May is always a great time in the coastal plain of Alabama! Birds that include crowd-favorites like the Indigo Bunting, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, and Summer Tanager all breed in this area and should be found on this outing. Warbler enthusiasts will have the chance to spot species such as the Black-and-white Warbler, Prairie Warbler, Swainson’s Warbler, and Hooded Warbler among the lush foliage, and the preserve's wetland areas may host wading birds like the Great Egret, Little Blue Heron, and White Ibis. Keep an eye out for raptors soaring overhead, including the Mississippi Kite and Red-shouldered Hawks that nest near the river. Don't forget your binoculars and enthusiasm as we explore the avian treasures of the Perdido River Preserve in Bay Minette! As always, proceeds from all events directly contribute to our conservation and educational goals through the state.

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION

Through more than seventy-five years of conservation work in one of our nation’s most ecologically rich states, Alabama Audubon has seen firsthand how diversity strengthens natural communities. This same principle applies to human communities, which is why our organization is committed to providing equitable and inclusive opportunities for all Alabamians to learn about and enjoy wild birds, their habitats, and the natural world. One of the best ways to support that belief is by valuing and actively seeking to strengthen diversity among our staff, our board, and our membership. To that end, Alabama Audubon welcomes everyone to participate in our work, and strives to make our programs, classes, and events welcome, inclusive, and accessible to all.
