Travel international with Alabama Audubon!
Deadline to register is January 5th, 2025!
We will arrive in Havana by midday, then birding in the lush, forested mountains that very afternoon. After a couple of days in the Sierra del Rosario, we’ll head south to Playa Larga where we’ll stay on the shores of the Bay of Pigs. From there we’ll explore the largest and wildest freshwater wetland in the Caribbean, the Zapata Swamp. After several days of seeking out Cuban and West Indian endemic birds (including parrots, owls, trogons, todies, quail-doves, and parakeets) we’ll head back to Havana to explore one of the oldest cities in the Americas. I’ve done this trip twice – and I promise you it will be a fabulous adventure.
Andrew Lydeard, Alabama Audubon’s Programs Coordinator, will be the host on this trip. Andrew is one of the best birders I’ve ever had the pleasure of birding with. But wait, there’s more!
Our guide for the trip will be my friend Mikael Morera, a Cuban ornithologist, who is ALSO one of the best birders I have ever met, and is one of the country’s top ornithologists. Both Mikael and Andrew are excellent guides, will show you amazing wildlife, and will take great care of you.
