VOLUNTEER

WE NEED YOUR HELP

ALABAMA AUDUBON would not be able to accomplish nearly so much without the tireless efforts of our dedicated volunteer cadre. Volunteers have been the leading force behind Alabama Audubon since its founding. Would you like to help us achieve our mission to promote conservation and a greater knowledge of birds, their habitats, and the natural world? We would love to add you to the team.

If you want to volunteer, but are not sure how, just let us know! We will work with you to find a suitable placement. But there are a few options below that might suit you perfectly.

WAYS TO VOLUNTEER

COMMUNITY SCIENCE VOLUNTEER You can assist the Science & Conservation Director with ongoing research efforts designed to investigate Alabama’s bird populations and the challenges they face. Duties vary according to the needs of each project, but all involve opportunities to learn bird-monitoring protocols and best practices in data collection. It is a great way to contribute to the long-term well-being of our avian friends.

HABITAT VOLUNTEER Our Habitat Volunteer Corps plays an essential role in our efforts to restore Birmingham-area landscapes for the benefit of birds and the people who love them. Currently, these efforts are focused primarily on our Audubon-Datnow Forest Preserve at W.E. Putnam Middle School, located in the heart of the city’s Eastwood neighborhood. While working to assist the Science & Conservation Director with this project, you will find this is a great opportunity to get outside, learn more about native-plant restoration, and make a positive difference in the Alabama landscape.

OUTREACH VOLUNTEER Work closely with the Outreach & Communications Director to build, support, and promote our programs. Our Outreach Volunteer Corps helps connect both new and seasoned audiences to the wonders of Alabama’s natural world. Outreach volunteers have opportunities to lead field trips and nature walks, and create interpersonal connections with our conservation-minded audience. If you are excited to educate people about birds and their habitats, then this is the position for you. It could also be a great learning experience if you are interested in nonprofit management, enjoy writing, and would like to know more about graphic design, advertising, or event planning. Hours may vary depending, and weekend or weekday opportunities are available.

COASTAL VOLUNTEER Our dedicated team of coastal volunteers are an integral part of what allows us to do the work that we do on the Alabama Gulf Coast. As we set our sights on creating new educational opportunities, increasing our presence at environmental expos, and continuing to provide comprehensive monitoring of our coastal birds, we are actively seeking new volunteers for 2024. If you are interested in learning more about volunteering as a Coastal Bird Steward, Education & Outreach Volunteer, or Coastal Bird Survey Volunteer please email our Coastal Outreach Manager at cortney@alaudubon.org with the subject Coastal Volunteer!

BIRMINGHAM OFFICE VOLUNTEER These dedicated volunteers help with simple chores that keep our organization running smoothly and efficiently. With flexible scheduling and a wide variety of possible tasks, this position is a perfect way for bird-lovers to help multiply the impact of our hardworking staff.
