Becoming a Better Birder: Using Field Marks to Identify Birds
with Greg Harber, Guest Speaker
Sunday, March 20, 2016, 2:00 p.m.
Oak Mountain Interpretive Center
Have you ever desired to become a better birder, or feel more confident about your bird identification skills? If so, then this program is for you! Identifying birds can be a challenge, especially when confronted with an unfamiliar species, but there are steps one can take to make the process a little easier. Field marks are those traits, behaviors or marks on a bird that one can use to help when trying to identify a bird. This program is geared toward the beginning or intermediate birder who wants to improve their skills by learning to identify birds by their field marks. Once you know the key field marks, you’ll be a pro in no time!

Programs are held at the Alabama Wildlife Center at Oak Mountain State Park, and the adjacent Oak Mountain Interpretive Center. Admission to the park is $5.00 per person, but the program itself is free. Come early to enjoy refreshments at the Alabama Wildlife Center and the birds at the feeders, then, when it is time for the program we will proceed to the auditorium.
