Coastal—Bird ID Walk

December 7, 2019 , 7:00 am 11:00 am

Registration now closed. Thanks to all who signed up—we look forward to seeing you there!

Fall Alabama Coastal Bird Surveys (ACBS) have flown by, and Winter ACBS will be here soon, beginning January 10th! But before ACBS Winter surveys begin, we wanted to start up the always popular bird identification walks. These are terrific opportunities to learn your coastal birds or to brush up on your bird ID skills. Join Alabama Audubon’s science staff and volunteer extraordinaire in both Mobile and Baldwin Counties!

If you have any general questions about the bird identification walks, ACBS, how to volunteer, or any other questions, please email our Coastal Programs Coordinator.

The details: Meetup is at 7 a.m. at the following locations:

Fort Morgan with Emma Rhodes: The meeting location is at Pine Beach Trail head which is located at the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge and is adjacent to Mobile Street. In case of bad weather, Emma Rhodes will contact you directly with changes. If you need to contact her, please email her at emma@alaudubon.org

Dauphin Island with Andrew Haffenden: The meeting location is the Dauphin Island Public Pier. Participants will meet in the beach parking lot. Upon entering the gate, tell the gate attendant you are with an Alabama Audubon event. In case of bad weather, Andrew Haffenden will contact you directly with changes. If you need to contact him, please email him at andrew@natsp.com.

Please bring the following with you: water, closed-toed shoes, sunscreen, snacks, binoculars (if you have them), and a camera (if you want to bring one). Also, plan to dress in layers as the day will start out cold and—knowing our lower Alabama weather—could stay cold or warm up to a beautiful day.

Accessibility: Moderate walking on some uneven terrain (sand)
