The Exploring Natural Alabama series (formerly Audubon Teaches Nature) returns to Oak Mountain for its twenty-eighth year with seven great programs covering a broad range of Alabama natural history. Co-sponsored by Birmingham Audubon, the Alabama Wildlife Center, and Oak Mountain Interpretive Center, these programs are free, family friendly, and open to the public. Join us!

The Urban Turtle Project with guest speaker Dr. Andy Coleman

The Urban Turtle Project is the brainchild of Andy Coleman, the former Program & Science Director at Birmingham Audubon. Turtles are the subject of Andy’s professional research interests, and this project allows community scientists to join in his efforts to survey, document, and conserve the turtle populations in the waterways of the Birmingham metropolitan area. In this program Andy will introduce you to the turtles found in our area waterways, where the project stands now, and how you can help. Join us for this last seminar before our summer break!

The details: This program will be held at the Oak Mountain Interpretive Center, just across the street from the Alabama Wildlife Center (404 Terrace Drive, Pelham, Alabama 35124). Cider, punch, and cookies are available starting at 1:30—come early for conversation and refreshments! Note that while the program is free, admission to Oak Mountain State Park is $5/adults, $2 for children (4–11) and seniors (62+).
