Join us for our Monthly Nature Program with special guest Herb Lewis as he presents, “Birding South Africa.” Herb and his wife Terry spent three weeks birding South Africa in September and October of 2017 (Africa’s spring season) touring from Cape Town to Kruger National Park. Herb will present photos of birds and scenery taken across several biomes, including lowland forests, grasslands, and savannas.

Since retiring in 2004, Herb has focused his personal hobbies of landscaping, birding, and photography into creating a natural wildlife habitat in his backyard primarily to attract birds. He is an Honorary Master Gardener, an instructor for the Master Gardener classes covering three counties, and an instructor for the annual Birmingham Audubon Mountain Workshop. Additionally, Herb is a volunteer docent and shuttle driver at the Huntsville Botanical Garden. Herb and Terry sponsored and helped develop the Lewis Birding Trail at the Huntsville Botanical Garden.

Reception starts at 6:30 p.m., talk runs from 7–8:30 p.m., in the East Room at Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

Email the Outreach & Communications Director for more information.
