2017 Spring Bird Count
April 29, 2017, 7:00 am–7:00 pm

It’s late April in Birmingham, a time for lush foliage, opening wildflowers, and newly arrived waves of neotropical migratory birds. Come experience all three as we take to the “birdiest” corners of Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Blount Counties for the fifty-second annual Birmingham Audubon Spring Bird Count!
Join a scouting party or do fifteen-minute counts at your feeders—both are great ways to help us get the data that we need to track bird movements, seasonal changes, and the effects of a warming climate. (To join a scouting group, call Greg Harber, 205-251-2133; he’ll be able to provide the names and contact information for party leaders in your area of choice. If you decide to count birds at home, simply email your observations to info@alaudubon.org, subject line: “Spring Bird Count Data”)
At the end of this day-long count, we’ll gather at the home of longtime Birmingham Audubon member and doyenne of Alabama conservationists, Elberta Reid (2616 Mountain Brook Parkway, Mountain Brook, Alabama), to share stories, compare notes, and compile our results. Compilation begins at 7 p.m.!
