Monthly Nature Program: Birmingham Audubon Supported Research
November 16, 2017, 6:30 pm–8:30 pm

Each year, Birmingham Audubon offers financial support to young researchers working on Alabama-related conservation and biodiversity projects. Our November Monthly Nature Program will feature presentations by two such scientists: Lydia Moore, recipient of a 2016 Walter F. Coxe Research Grant, and Alaina Lamb, the inaugural Birmingham Audubon Scholar at UAB.
Ms. Moore is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, where she grew up exploring salt-water marshes by kayak. A graduate of Oberlin College (BA) and Auburn University (MS), and a former intern at the National Wildlife Federation, she is currently pursuing a PhD with Auburn’s Dr. Sharon Hermann, studying bat populations in Alabama’s longleaf pine forests.
Ms. Lamb is an ornithologist and an avid recreational birder. A graduate of Auburn University, she has worked at bird-banding stations in Michigan and Costa Rica, and has assisted in avian life-history research in Arizona and on the Big Island of Hawaii. She is currently working on a master’s degree at UAB, studying bird utilization of invasive privet in urban forests.
Reception starts at 6:30 p.m., talks run from 7–8:30 p.m., in the Hodges Room at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. (Please note the room change; Hodges is on the first floor.)
