Exploring Natural Alabama presents Reptiles: A Sampler

The Exploring Natural Alabama series (formerly Audubon Teaches Nature) returns to Oak Mountain for its twenty-seventh year with seven great programs covering a broad range of Alabama natural history. Co-sponsored by Birmingham Audubon, the Alabama Wildlife Center, and Oak Mountain Interpretive Center, these programs are free, family friendly, and open to the public. Join us! 

Reptiles: A Sampler with special guest David Frings

Reptiles are among the most ancient animals on the planet, having existed for over 300 million years. Modern Reptiles inhabit every continent except Antarctica. They number in excess of 10,000 species, of which ninety-three are indigenous to Alabama: one crocodile, twelve lizards, forty-nine snakes, and thirty-one turtles. Four lizard species have been introduced. Today’s program will include a sampling of live native and non-native species, affording close-up views of their unique adaptations. Your kids will love this program—be sure to bring a camera!

The details: This program will be held at the Oak Mountain Interpretive Center (404 Terrace Drive, Pelham, Alabama 35124), just across the street from the Alabama Wildlife Center. Cider, punch, and cookies are available starting at 1:30—come early for conversation and refreshments! Note that while the program is free, admission to Oak Mountain State Park is $5/adults, $2 for children (4–11) and seniors (62+).
